paradox

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times;
it ws the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness;
it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity;
it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness;
it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair;
we had everything before us, we had nothing before us;
we were all going directly to Heaven, we were all going the other way.

the Pursuit of Happiness

Don't ever let somebody tell you, you can't do something.

You got a dream, you have to protect it.

People can't do something themselves, they wanna tell you can't do it.

You want something, go get it.

try try try

alright everybody alright
listen up listen up
be quiet be quiet
now this's what making music is all about
it's about getting stupid with your- friends
a litter once in a while
yeah
you gotta let the music
into your heart
you know you gotta feel it
alright here we go

Summarize of my first half year of 2008

It is time to conclude.

2008 is the Olympic year of China, though it began with heavy icy and snowy days in South China followed by an earth quake disaster in Sichuan. So 2008 was meant to be unordinary for China, and for me, too.

In the first half of 2008, I mostly worked in Beijing for a startup that focuses on barcode application on mobile phones and some machine vision systems. It was there that I saw a rise and fall of a company and played different roles other than a programmer to give help. I was once inspired, then gradually frustrated and at last learnt a lot from this special experience.

The most important thing I learnt is that the success of IT startup needs not only effort but also luck. It is really high return with high risk. Here the future is mostly talked about rather than reality. Though many smart people are playing here, but few can succeed, and fewer can continue their success. Reality is cruel.

Another thing I learnt is playing by the rules. Every game has its rule, implicit or explicit. Rules may be restrict, but they also protect players. If you break the rules, you lose the protection too, no matter you are a special individual or a powerful company. Rules can be changed very slowly only by coordinated systems, which is culture, lots of people or science advances.

Based on the above conclusions, I restart to think seriously about my future: where should I go?

When God closed a door, he opens another.
